Frequently Asked Questions

How do I set an alert for an upcoming festival film?

Click the "Alert Me" button on any film card. You will be notified when the film's status changes — including when it gets a confirmed streaming date, a theatrical release window, or becomes available for digital rental. Alerts are free and can be managed in your account settings.

How far in advance do you list upcoming festival film releases?

We list films as soon as any distribution information becomes available — sometimes months before a confirmed release date. Films with confirmed dates show the exact date, while those with projected windows are clearly labeled as estimates. Some festival films appear here within days of their premiere if a distributor acquires them quickly.

What does TBD mean on a film's release status?

TBD means "To Be Determined." The film has premiered at a festival but does not yet have a confirmed distribution deal, theatrical release date, or streaming premiere date. We continue to monitor these films and update their status as soon as new information becomes available.

Why do some festival films skip theaters and go straight to streaming?

Some distributors, particularly streaming platforms like Netflix and MUBI, acquire festival films specifically for their platforms. Others may give a limited theatrical run for awards eligibility before a streaming debut. The decision depends on the distributor's strategy, the film's commercial potential, and contractual obligations from the acquisition deal.
